Character Illustrator/ 2D Character Artist
Remote
Full-time
Project: Untitled SCP Dating Sim
About the Role
- We are looking for a talented Character Illustrator for our SCP Foundation inspired Dating Sim who will serve as the visual backbone of our game.
- Your primary focus will be taking reference concepts and turning them into highly polished, fully rendered (static) 2D character sprites and expression sheets for dialogue sequences.
Key Responsibilities
- Character Production: Render high-resolution, static, production-ready 2D character sprites, poses, and expression sheets based on established references and design briefs.
- Focus is strictly on static 2D art; no rigging or animation required.
- Texture and Rendering Polish: Maintain a distinct visual style combining clean line art with detailed surface rendering.
- Conceptual Adaptation (Bonus points): Help translate abstract or monstrous SCP lore into appealing, dateable humanoid character designs.
- UI and Visual Support (Bonus points): Assist with secondary visual assets, such as dialogue frames, choice buttons, or environment concepts if needed.
Qualifications
- Style and Technique: Demonstrated ability to draw in semi-realistic style with detailed linework, realistic cloth folds, and textured shading.
- Portfolio Focus: Must show finished, high quality, fully rendered character illustrations, full-body sprites, or detailed semi-realistic styled character designs (over rough concept sketches). Preference for artists who can blend romance-game tropes with eerie, detailed monster elements.
- Software Mastery: Proficiency in digital drawing tools (Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Procreate, or equivalent).
- Anatomy and Expression: Deep understanding of anatomy, lighting, fabric rendering, and facial expression design for sprite overlays.
Nice to Haves
- Previous experience on visual novels, dating sims, or 2D narrative games.
- Enthusiasm for or knowledge of the SCP universe.
- Basic familiarity with UI design or environment art concepts.
